Jack,
I wish I could guarantee you that there wouldn't be any problems but I can
say that I am confident that IBO is in a superior condition overall than it
has ever been. This is especially where multi-byte characters are concerned.
As soon as I fix the recent BLOB ID issue when using the new feature
IB_TransForUpdate, I will have all issues regarding character sets resolved.
(Knock on wood.)
You should migrate your application from the version you have now to the
most current release. Then, you can give it a trial run and see how it goes.
Another good reason to keep up to date now is I have started using a
regression testing application to ensure IBO remains solid in all core
functionality. Now, every bug I can, I first reproduce it in the regression
testing app and then I fix it there. This way, that code remains a part of
my testing suite to ensure that the bug does not reappear. This should make
it so that from this point forward you will be able to faithfully depend
upon IBO performing all of the core responsibilities it has.

We have been running IBO4 for over a decade, but have not upgraded in 2
years (or more) because we did not want to have to go through any
debugging phase. We are running InterBase 6.0.2 without problems. If
we upgrade to the latest version of IBO, are we going to encounter
problems? I believe we are running IBO4_9 from Jan. 2010, but do not
know how to tell for certain.
Thanks
