Helen,
as far as I can tell it's at the right location and the registry
points to its folder. Everything is installed with default settings
and the machine is clean. A colleague of mine tested on two different
(supposedly clean) machines and one behaves like mine, while another
one behaves correctly. We can't figure out the difference, though.

no, the variable is not set and there's no trace of any other version
of Firebird on the system.
H> Check whether the alias exists in Fb 2.1's aliases.conf; also

everything is ok. Something fishy is going on.
