On a AsusP5B with an old first generation sata drive (37Gb) I get :
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 2586 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1293.51 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 136 MB in 3.02 seconds = 45.07 MB/sec

# uname -a
Linux stryke 2.6.22.12-desktop-1mdv #1 SMP Tue Nov 20 13:15:05 EST 2007 x86_64 Intel(R)
Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz GNU/Linux
