Well I don't think that the windows version is producing comparable results.
All three machines are showing cached read results in the 30to40 MB/sec range
and buffer disk read in the 40to50MB/sec range. Nothing gets over 50MB/sec.

I've spotted two problems with the Linux box, the DDR2 memory is only PC4200
and for some reason I've managed to put a Semperon 3500 processor in. I've got
4 sticks of PC6400 on the way, and a 64X2 6400+ 2MB processor to drop in.

Michael - These machine are all using ALiveSATA2-GLAN motherboards. VIA K8T890
chipset, but I understand the memory interface is on the processor. I've got
a couple of other things to try and see what happens.
