this must be because the Fb client (even if renamed ;-)) uses whatever
RemoteServicePort setting is found in the firebird.conf file located
in its home (which is gathered by the Windows Registry if you have a
standard installation). Personally I prefer not to have any
firebird.conf client side, and always specify the port in the
connection string.

Yep, that's the model IB/Fb has always used: there's no such thing as
a "server" as IBConsole sees it. Many other administration tools have
done the same modeling mistake, sadly including FlameRobin, but we're
going to fix that! ;-)
