What exactly do you mean by reinstalling firebird client?
All what I did was unzipping + untaring the
firebird package and running the install.sh -script.
Firebird was installed ok and it started running as service
just as expected.
What else do I need to do to install the 1.5-client?

Have you reinstalled the Firebird 1.5 client? I solve this problem=20
reinstaling the client.
