We are in the process of ordering a new db server. This server will have a
300GB raid 5 array spread over 3 physical drives. Our current database is
10GB, so we've got a bit of headroom to play with.
My question is - does shadowing on a raid array offer us anything? My
understanding is that the benefit of a shadow is if the drive that the db
is on fails, the shadow on another drive can take over. In the case of a
raid array, data is spread across drives, so one drive failing is
accomodated at the raid level.
Suggestions and comments please.
