I have read somewhere that I can't access Firebird from BDE. IS that true?

I found that my application, initially designed for Interbase 5.5/win & BDE is working just fine with Borland's Interbase 6 Open source (tried both Linux and Windows versions). Is that going to be the case with the latest release of firebird?
