Are you running Windows or Unix or Linux??
If you are running Windows, you can use Terminal Services. It will
cost a license fee per user (about $100), but you can take your
client/server application with no modifications and run it on the
Server and get as good or better throughput.
I use terminal services and I can run 80 terminals with a 1.5 Gigabyte
database on a server and use the internet to 25 locations (stores)
with very good performance.
