It's quite a long time since we tried. I think with Classic we always
got the message "Cannot attach to services manager".

Are you sure that it doesn't work with Classic? I only ask as I wasted
about a week trying to get our app running in Classic but couldn't get
backups / restores to work (we use IBOAdmin). At the time I asked a
number of people assured me it did in fact work.
