On browsing previous posts I'm not sure whether you are trying to diagnose
a NetBeui problem or trying to use tcp/ip. Sorry if I'm just confusing
everyone.
If your connect string is RECORDS:E:\Data\BikeReg.GDB you're trying to
connect with tcp/ip, and a visit to the clients hosts and services files is
recommended. Your server should have a fixed IP address (no DHCP).
I've seen installations/upgrades on NT-based computers rewrite the hosts
and/or services files (clearing your entries) - maybe it was reinstall of
TCP/IP? You might get away with no entry in the hosts file if you use the
IP-address in the connect string (which requires WinSock2, and I don't
remember about IB using this convention). If TCP/IP is installed, I
thought that an IB install added the entry to the services file. However,
if it was the last line (without an empty line at the end) it wasn't
sufficient - IIRC from IB/5.6.
