The manual work could be needing to rename a database following a gbak
restore or copying a database file before running gfix on it.

I will try using gfix to closedown the server, I had come across that
command in earlier Firebird versions but had limited success with
forcing it to close open connections, hopefully that is all now resolved
in Firebird 2.5.
