> The more common way to do this, would be to add an entry in the aliases.conf file on the server pointing to the database. Then, the new additional computer would only have to know the host computer name and the alias you've defined yourself. No need for the additional computer to know the physical address of the database, it doesn't even need to be able to see the directory (it is the Firebird user on the server that accesses the file, the logged on client only communicates with Firebird).WOW! That is so cool. I created a simple test app because my "big" one was already hard wired to specify the path, etc. It is awesome to just specify the alias name. That makes data path configuration very simple. I wish I had known about this feature before I created my Data Path Configuration utility. It's funny, I read about it in Helen's book, but I didn't fully appreciate the implications. This opens a whole new world to me.
Svein, you are awesome. Thank you so much!!!
