This is expected. Work was done, when the Windows x64 port was developed, to allow for the database ODS to be natively accessible from both x86 and x64 builds for a given platform.

Yes, it _could_ be that simple.

Personally, I would use the version upgrade as an opportunity to perform and database maintenance backup/restore.
