Although, the index created with the computed by directive seems to work on
the actual server,

I wouldn't treat this as a permanent solution.

The reason for this is that I still have users with different servers(
Windows and Linux) running FireBird 1.5

so such indice creation on the design database can work only if all
customers are ported to FB 2.1.



The upgrade issue covering all clients can wait until FB 2.5 so I need to
dig deep and find the real cause of this error.
