No ideas left...

I think my efforts would be to setup some timimg measurements (using
gettickcount or alike) and write a log to find out where the extra time
is spent... is it waiting for resulsets, is it connecting to the
database etc.

Than compare the numbers of the slow setup (Active Dir) and the fast
setup, just to find out exactly where the delays occur...
