Don't use .gdb as an extension. This can cause performance problems as Windows sometimes does special things with files with that extension. Use .fdb instead.

Is the application you are connecting from by any chance a 32 bit application? In that case you need a 32 bit ODBC. Try accessing the other server using the IP address instead of the hostname.
