I faced a really strange situation in one of my customers today.
FB 2.1.2 SS running on Linux
After enabling the DummyPacketInterval parameter on firebird.conf, and
set it to 60 (= 1 minute), some of the terminal machines started to
have problems. They ran my application (made in Delphi + IBO) and
during the connection process, the application just disappears from
the taskmgr. No error is presented. It is likely the application is
being terminated with no apparent reason. This is not constant: 10
tries results in 9 failures like that. Not all the machines has this
problem. Also, it seems that the problem doesn't happen if there are
just a few connections to the server.
Most of the terminals are running Windows XP. Some of them are
accessing the server by VPN over ADSL, but the problem also happens in
machines connected direct to the local network, by WIFI of physical
connection.
I disabled the DummyPacketInterval and it seems that everything is
back to normal. But this is really strange.
Does anyone faced problems similar to this?
BTW, my application also uses Firebird events (not sure if this has
any influence in the problem).
