It's perhaps a far stretch, but are your support people using IB_SQL to access the databases? When you are connected to a database, a DROP DATABASE button appears at the LHS of the toolbar, right beside the connect/disconnect button. I mention it because a customer of mine once had a similar problem and it turned out to be a staff member who thought the DROP DATABASE button was for disconnecting...despite the 'confirm' dialog...

I hope this doesn't mean that you have the databases located on the workstations - perhaps you need to clarify what the setup is.
