Hi,

I have this question - how SYSDBA can detect whether DB is online or it
is shut down? I have heard, that some developers have implemented the
feature in their programs, that asks the DB to go online each time
(e.g. using IXB Admin component for FB services), when SYSBA is
connecting the DB. But, apparently, it would be better to do this only
after shutdown is detected. But how SYSDAB can detect shutdown?

And - is there any bad side of bringing online database (maybe even
some several times a day), that is already online? What is the best
practice for this situation?
