I've just gone back and checked my notes on something. I can see from
these notes that I was having a problem using the RunOnce mechanism,
which was executing things *before* login. The full registry key is:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Since RunOnce automatically deletes an entry once it has been run, your
application would have to re-insert the entry so it gets run upon the
next boot.
