Yes, i had a similar problem when i upgraded to 2.0.4, but the reason
is that forced writes never worked on Linux before due to a Linux bug,
and now it works on 2.0.4 and 2.1. So if your database had forced
writes on (gfix -write sync <database>), the performance impact is
probably caused by this.

You can try to disable forced writes to check (gfix -write async <database>).
