That sounds as though your utility is using the wrong client library. Check the directory structure where that utility is installed, in case there is a "rogue" client library there. Otherwise, freshly reboot your machine and run the program instclient.exe from Firebird's \bin\ directory in a cmd shell. You will find instructions + switches + parameters in the \doc\ directory.

Did you try substituting the Firebird version of the employee database for that old IB 5.6 (ODS 9) one from Delphi 5?
