OK, my fault, I've just forget to look into /var/log/messages

the errors are there and they are all the same (eg, for isql):

"isql: Missing configuration file: /opt/firebird/firebird.conf, exiting (No
such file or directory)"

So, now, my question: Is "/opt/firebird/" hard coded into firebird
executables???
