It is "atkin" not "atkins". When setting up your news client, you should enter the server address only (news.atkin.com) not the nntp directive (news://) as news clients apply this themselves in various idiomatic ways.

The Atkin newsgroups are mirrors of the Yahoo and sourceforge lists. Once you are subscribed to the originating groups, you can treat the Atkin groups just like any news group. You can always configure your accounts with the originating groups to "No email" if you don't want to get messages in your inbox.
