No. The .tar.gz package from Firebird website doesn't play well with
Ubuntu's xinetd (because Ubuntu has non-default paths for xinetd stuff).
The test case is:

Set up Ubuntu, install xinetd and Firebird from its (.deb) packages.
Make sure xinetd is started. Everything should work.
