Try OpenVPN, it supports compression too and should speed things up in
addition to making the connection secure. You will need to do some
reading though. You should find all you need there:

In fact a simple static connection should suffice for what you need,

I personally never had problems with OpenVPN and it seems to be very
tolerant regarding transmission problems.
