Subject SQL Dialect 3 vs.1, Database porting & Networking
Author Gaurav Sood
Hi All,

I received the following message as I connected to an older Interbase
database from a ISQL window.

Warning Pre IB V6 database only speaks SQL dialect 1 and does not
accet Client SQL dialect 3. Client SQL Dialect is reset to 1.

A few questions:
1. I presume the SQL Dialect 3 is the later release of SQL that most
DBs now run on ?

2. If I have an old Interbase Database and want to port the data over
to Firebird, what is the easiest way to do so ?

3. Are there special configurations required for a database to be
accesible by multiple users over a LAN ? If the database is stored on
one host PC and other users try to access it over a LAN, and I have
installed the Super Server (I think) Firebird database, would this be
easier to do ?

Thanks heaps!!

Have a good Friday,

Gaurav
