I believe it must be some kind of global DOS attack.
Whenever I have these kind of problems with *my* emails
(which has nothing to do with yahoo nor firebird),
than people on Firebird (and formerly InterBase) groups
start complain about the same delays.
I noticed it many times during past several years,
and the correlation is 100% so far.
