The "problem" isn't a problem. Yahoogroups are listserv lists, not
newsgroups. The news server at atkin.com mirrors the messages. Anyone can
read them but, in order to post messages, you must be subscribed to the
Yahoo list.

At the Yahoo home page of the list, you can click My Account and set your
delivery options to "No Email". That prevents you from receiving the mails
from the list, but still allows you to post messages from your newsreader.

The delay you experienced was not long. However, all new subscribers to
our lists are moderated, as a way to keep out spammers. We have 24/7
moderator coverage of this list so, in general, your first message won't be
held up for more than a few hours. It might take longer for your posting
to be mirrored to the news server, though.
