Subject GDS32 question (another)
Author Michael Vilhelmsen
Hi
Last week I asked what would happen if I had a server running FB
1.0.3 and the client using a older version of GDS32 (or a newer
version).
The answers was more or less, that I shouldn't do that......

BUT.....Here in our house we have 4 servers.
2 are running Windows with FB 1.5 installed, 1 is running windows
with FB 1.0.3 running and the last is runnning some Linux with FB
1.0.3.

The clients uses either the GDS32 that came with 1.0.3 or 1.5.

As I have understood, I can place the GDS32 file the same place as my
EXE file. But this requieres that I updates more foldes than just one
(the system folder of windows).

Is it really that big a problem using different versions of GDS with
different versions of FB ?

If it is, then one solution is to place the GDS32 along with the EXE
file (or the FBClient with those appl. I have that uses IBO), right ?

Another solution is to make sure that all FB Servers are the same new
version (i.e. FB 1.5) and have all clients using the GDS32 from FB
1.5, right ?
This last one is at this point not quite posible, sinse our Linux is
a .386 something, and FB 1.5 only comes to .686......

And last.....

Upgrading the GDS32 on a client could be done be just copying a new
GDS32.DLL file onto the client or do I need to do something else ?
Of course I can run the client install of the FB.

Thank you

Michael
