I've had Firebird 1.0.3 running peacefully on my Windows 2000 Server for quite
sometime and decided to try to upgrade to 1.5 today. It's not a
mission-critical machine, so I thought I'd jump in with all fours and just
uninstall the old and install the new.
After what seemed like a perfect install and server reboot, I checked to make
sure the service was running and started up IBExpert on the server to check
things out (attempt to open the employee sample database). I got the error
"Attempting to connect to services manager .... failed."
IBExpert provides a connection test, and that told me it found the gds_db
service at port 3050, but failed to connect for error number 10035 (is this an
IBExpert error number?).
So I tried ISQL and it told me it failed to establish a connection because the
target machine actively refused it! This last message sounds like I installed
a firewall and am blocking port 3050, but I did nothing other than uninstall
1.0.3 and install 1.5.
Now, trying to go back and install 1.0.3, isql simply exits with no error
message.
What have I done? Or better yet, what can I do?
Thanks,
David Cornelius
