Windows always makes sure that a certain procentage of the physical memory
is free. This is done by swapping memory into swap files if nessesary. So
even if the task manager says that x MB physical memory is free, the system
might already be swapping heavily.

Using half of the computers physical memory for FireBird cache sounds to as
too much.
