requested the support manager to get me the largest gdb file he knows of so
that I can see what it does.
We did find a severe performance degradation (with IB) at about 70 - 80 MB
GDB size; but careful examination of the queries, SPs, transactions and
indices soon solved that problem. In other words, we have already optimized
the db as far as possible, and have a stable gdb in production. So it will
be interesting to see if the users and support staff and engineers notice
faster performance.
Our requirement is really more for stability and ruggedness. We have about
1 500 sites throughout Southern Africa, all small networks (2 machines) or
standalones, mostly running on W98 SP 2, although the latest ones are on
XP. We have what can best be described as a computer illiterate user group,
who will simply switch off the power at the wall socket and reboot if they
think that the application is too slow ....
So it will be interesting to see how FB performs in the field. IB has
certainly stood up to the level of abuse directed at it very well indeed ...
Notwithstanding that, I will report back on how it goes and what the
performance / stability is like.
Regards
Tim
