Hello,
I have used Firebird superserver using Win98 and peer to peer networks.
I have Firebird running on Win98 machines with 256 MB RAM and they work fine.
If your network cabling is good and your Win98 installation is stable it is fine.
Dont load it heavily with say 30 users or something. But upto 5 users connecting it will be fine.
But backup, backup backup. Windows 98 doing into BSOD is likely to cause your FAT to corrupt etc. and your database is gone forever.
Dont use it in applications where loosing data since last backup will cause serious problems.

Install Winsock2, and you can use TCP/IP. It will then accept multiple
clients like a regular server.
In any case, Win9x is not a good choice for a server.
RAM requirements also depends on <page size>*<no of cache pages>, but 128MB
should be fine for running one database, and you can get away with
less. If you want to do additional work on this pc (not really
recommended, in particular with Win9x) you may need to add more.
