You did miss something. The customer in question that is paying for
the development did request a 64-bit/SMP Superserver. If I'm not
mistaken, Jim disabled Firebird's thread scheduler in order to have OS
managed fine multi-threading enabled, which in my eyes is the best way
to have true SMP/HT support.

Especially if you have a 64-bit OS.
