... and some more info:
1) On a much slower linux box, commits are fast as lightning.
2) Or if I switch the database to forced writes "off", the w2k-server
machine is ultra fast, when doing commits.
3) If I connect to a w2k-workstation running as a db-server, commit-
time is also fast.
And in all cases the commit is slow, the network protocol looks like
this:
Request commit
gds_db > 1121 [ACK]
Reply response
where there is something in between request and reply.
