It is not called directly by the Firebird install script.

fiddle around a bit. Partly because I didn't have vim installed.
I always add hostname.networkname to hosts.equiv (although I've never had
time to confirm whether it is needed or not.) That may help.
If I get time I'll try an SS install on SuSE 8.1 over the weekend.
