Yes, it's that simple.

Yes (if you are using Interclient there is also another port but I don't
remember the port number)

Open just that port and close everything else. Security is done just for as
in local network: using FB users.

No. But this is an 'open feature' to be implemented in Firebird. I would
like also some kind of compression over the net, but this is not a 'open
feature'. (Sean, are you reading this? Compression is a must on slow
connections, and I think it's easy to implement if we are going to implement
encryption!).

Feel free to ask. You can always work with something like Asta to improve
performance and have encryption on the way.
