Yes, it's as easy as that.

Other than what Martijn is suggesting, you can also have a look at IB
Encryption Proxy (http://www.nothingbutnet.co.nz/ibeproxy.htm). I never
used it yet.

There's also another possibility, connecting to the server via a Virtual
Private Network(VPN). If the client machines are Windows systems, this is
feasible. A VPN is a secured connection over the internet.
