No, SS doesn't rely on (x)inetd daemon at all. You'll need to run
ibserver process instead. It should run automatically on system
init. Take a look at firebird script in your /etc/rc.d/init.d or where
this beast is on RH 7.x :-) You can also try rcfirebird script that
should be in your search path (/usr/bin). Try to add a plus (+) to
your /etc/host.equiv file.
