If you have a Windows 2000 machine, go to the system properties of the
machine and access the network identification tab folder. The machine name
is displayed there.

on Windows NT, I think it is as you have mentioned.

To test the network connection, go to another PC and try from a DOS window:
PING <your server name>

You should get a reply along with the IP address of that machine

What server name would that be? Is it the "Computer Name" entered on the
Identification tab in the network settings?
