Thanks Lester,
I am using SYSDBA and masterkey. I had forgotten about the 8 character issue. Alas, it did not work either.
I am hesitant to switch horses at this point. I need to have this working for a charity auction on the 25th. I may just roll back interbase if I can find the install media.

Try SYSDBA and masterke as user name and password ... think interbase
still defaults to that ;)
While interbase should work, firebird would be better supported here.
