A point ... PHP5.3.3 has been released so you don't need the rc1 version.

I'm currently running both FB2.1 and 2.5 with PHP5.3.3/Apache2.2.13 without a
problem on SUSE 11.3 both direct and via ADOdb, so there should not be any
problem. I'm not aware of any differences in the interbase extension between 5.2
and 5.3 on Linux ... windows however is still a problem actually getting a
driver in PHP5.3

Probably the first question is does it actually fault on the connect or
something later? Trying via ADOdb may give some more information, but basically
it should work.
