Unlike Oracle, M$ and MySQL which charge $$$ for their licenses, and can focus on "Marketing" features.

The Firebird Foundation gets a little money from memberships and sponsorships and therefore needs to focus on features which users really want.

[*]Even if someone were to volunteer to implement Tablespaces, I would want to ask them to work on more important features/changes.
