The uppercase L is to emphasise the fact that "Helen" doesn't have two "l's". The dot-slash is to remind me not to omit it from examples like

./gstat -h /data/mydb.fdb

And when you see it as ^heLen, the '^' is the witch's hat (the one the list moderator wears).
