Why? Because it is capable, reliable and proven, it gives you
freedom, it is future proof, and has no licensing cost, even for
high-end commercial use.

It is not like sybase or ingres (will they be around next year?), not
like mssql (unreliable, problematic code base), not like oracle or
db2 (will they again raise prices next year?), not like mysql (not
proven ouside of web serving, expensive for commercial use), not
like postgresql (not used much outside of the academic world).
