Hi,
I have been reading the slogan thread since it started and wanted to
contribute but couldn't think of anything serious, till this morning
(in the shower! the best thinking place!).
I thought about what people have discussed which is that the slogan
must portray an emotional as well as functional message. With this in
mind I propose this:
FirebirdSQL: The Internationally dependable Enterprise SQL Solution.
The first section is obviously the name "FirebirdSQL". Maybe just
"Firebird"?
The next part "Internationally" shows that this is a professional
global product with world wide knowledge, use and support. It's not
some kids play tool.
Then "dependable", this brings in the reliability (emotional aspect)
of the product and how people around the world depend on it as if it
were their life blood.
"Enterprise" is a word that I feel, conveys that fact that it is not a
Mickey Mouse database but has the powerful "enterprise" features that
big businesses require. i.e. stored proc, triggers, views etc etc.
"SQL Solution". I was going to use "SQL Server" but knew this would
bring a bashing from the Microsoft Legal dept. Hence I opted for SQL
Solution. Solution; because you don't just have a database. It's the
database, plus countless adapters (.NET, Java etc etc), backup
programs, GUI Admins and more.
One key items I purposefully left out was "Open Source". Now, although
this is undoubtedly one major benefit of Firebird I know that anyone
who researches it for at least 1 minute, will soon see (via news
article, IBPhoneix posting or the main Firebirdsql.com) that it is
open source. Also, Open Source is a bit of a loose term in the fact
that it doesn't portray the licensing implication a product may have.
May people think Open Source = Free, but as we all know with MySQL,
that is not the case for commercial apps.
Thought and comments welcome!!!!!!!!!!
