I forwarded the posting to Philip Copeman, owner of Pink Software/TurboCash
and this is his response.
JVZ
I am currently leaning towards using MySQL, Delphi and the ZEOS components.
MY comments are below linked to yours.
I would like to hear from Firebird as this is a really critical area for us.
Whoever we choose as our partner will defintely be close to us. We are
alrady the leading Oepn SOurce Accoutnign package fro small business in a
young market. WE intend to still be out in front when the market matures. We
beleive the target is 2 Million users.
and this is his response.

MYSQL ALOS OFFERS AND ENBEDDED DATABASE

YEAH I AM ALSO NERVOUS OF PSOTGRESS FOR THE REASON. The idea of cross
playform is a MYTH. It is currently only offered by PHP and MYSQL withg a
crappy Browser interface, not really suitable to Accoutngin systems (or
other applicatiosn for that matter)
WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING IN THE PLANS OF DVELOPEING IN WINDOWS AND USIN AN
EMULATOR TO GET THE LINUX GOGING LOOKING AT WINE adn CODEWAEVER
(UNFORTUNATELY NTO OPOEN SOURCE)
HOWEVER MYSQL PHP IS A REALLY NOCE ADD ON TO DELPHI MYSQL AS IT LETS NON
DELHI PROGRAMMERS PARTICIPATE AND PHP HAS TO BE THE DOMINANT LOW COMMITMENT
PROGRAMMING ENVIRONEMENT.

I DON"T REALLY UNDERTNAD THE BENEFIT OF STORED PROCEEDURES. MYSQL DOES LOOK
LIKE AN OLD FASHIONED DATABASE.
I HAVE FOUND FRIBRIG SLOW WHEN USED WITH SMALL DATA SETS.
I AM SUSPICIOUS OF THE MYSQL LICENCE, BUT FIND THE FIEBIRD LICENCE CLEAR AND
THIS MAY BE THEIR STRONGEST POINT.
I AM SUSPICIOUS OF A SINGLE FILE DATABASE.
