Hello all,
In the course of digging around for some background for the book, I came
across this. It's worth a visit. Sometimes we might tend to overlook the
fact that SQL was invented by human beings...

I was astonished to discover that Ray Boyce (whose name lives on as the
Boyce-half of Boyce-Codd normal form), one of the two "initiators" of the
standard query language that became SQL, was involved in the project for
only a couple of years. He died after brain surgery for an aneurysm while
engaged in this significant foundation work.
